How to Measure
Determine Installation Placement
Measure the depth from the window face to the window frame edge to determine inside or outside frame installation. Guards must be securely screwed into solid material or a stud for optimal performance. Guard end posts are 3/4” square and require a minimum of 3/4” depth for installation.
If the depth is equal or grater than 3/4”, the guard can be installed on the inside of the window frame.
If the depth is less than 3/4”, the guard will need to be installed on the face of the window frame (molding or wall).
Measure Window Length
Measure the length of where the guard will be installed (inside or face of window frame). This will be the width for horizontal installs or the height for vertical installs.
Measure Window Opening Space (Danger Zone)
Measure the height or width of the fully open window space (Maximum Opening/Danger Zone). The entire window frame for double-hung, double-slider and casement windows should be guarded completely.
Use those two measurements with our Model Number Sizing Chart to determine the model/s you will need.
If the window opening exceeds the specified "maximum opening" size, more than one guard will be required to cover the window.
